September 11 - Resort Adventures

September 11, 2019
Day 254 - 111 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Highlander Grogg (Butterscotch/Rum flavor)

The Last Resort Project:
We are into our second day of deck building at The Last Resort. Cap'n Ray is getting a back deck and Tiffany is getting a new deck entry to he "Wash Tub". I was accused of "Cherry Picking" the job I was working on because it had a shade tree over it. I'm not saying that I wouldn't have done that because as hot as it's been. I may very well have picked the job with the shade tree. But in this case, I picked the specific job because I wanted to help Ray create a nice space at his cabin to enjoy his morning coffee. Also because I had hoped he would invite me to said Coffee on the Deck once it was done and he begins putting it to proper use!

The work going on there has FINALLY begun to be something other than fixing you can't see. It seems forever that we've been working on either pipes, electrical upgrades or something in a cabin crawlspace. With that mostly done, it's nice to see improvements that can actually be seen.

Back at Rainbow Haven Resort today, I had the chance to welcome our longest tenured guest. Rick has been showing up here in Rockaway Beach for 58 years now. His "official" visit occurs over the week of July 4th. However, he is always good for two or three additional visits each year and this week turns out to be one of them. He shared a few nostalgic stories with us today about the town which is always fun. His stories go back to before the construction of Table Rock Dam. He remembers when Lake Taneycomo was still a warm lake.
