November 28 - Resort Adventures - Thanksgiving

November 28, 2019
Day 332 - 33 Days to go
94 Days Until March 1
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost in the Fog (Guatemala Decaf)

Well, if yesterday's Thanksgiving Day Family Gathering wasn't strange enough, we added another level today. Even though we end up with things like Pizza and Oyster Stew as Thanksgiving Day feasts, Occasionally we like the turkey and ham and fixin's as well. With friends in town this weekend, we decided that the "rest of the world tradition" might be nice. So what did we do???? Made reservations at the Flat Creek Resort Bar and Grill for our ham and yam and turkey dinner. AGAIN...… Don't Laugh! The food was exceptional and the friends we shared the dinner with were just like family.

Before all of that though, we enjoyed early morning coffee by the lake. The women watched parades while sitting by the fireplace. Once the parades ended, the guys got to see a little football. Today was probably as close as we ever get to actual traditional Thanksgiving.

Day 331 - 34 Days to go
95 Days Until March 1
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Ozark Mountain Turtle (Chocolate, Caramel and Pecan flavor)

Dad with great grandson Callahan getting high fives!
It's the day before Thanksgiving and the holiday has changed for us this year. Over the past several years, Thanksgiving cooking and my parents increasing difficulty with mobility has begun to transform Thanksgiving into something much simpler than the traditional big meal. With my mom leading the way at deciding what and where we would celebrate the family holiday, we found ourselves indulging her more and more with a couple of her favorites. They include oyster stew and/or Pizza. Sometimes at the same time. Don't laugh. Mom was serious about oyster stew, and Pizza was on her "favorite's list" as well. Occasionally it would be carry out Pizza brought to their assisted living home, other times it was to have everyone load up and go to a local Pizza shop. Godfather's was close and so many of our birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and special occasions ended up at the local Godfathers Pizza with our family taking over the party room for an hour or two. Thanksgiving this year would be the first family holiday without mom and the difficult schedule dictated that we try something a day early. Leaving the decision to dad, he didn't hesitate choosing a Godfathers Thanksgiving for the Family Gathering. I'm not sure if it was inspired because of a pizza craving, the simplicity of it or the fact that it's what mom would have probably chosen. In any case, we gathered in the party room once again for our "Teig Family Thanksgiving Day Meal". We were one family member short this year, but we were all thankful for those who could still gather together and enjoy the company of family. Four generations were represented today and once again, we were thankful.

Day 330 - 35 Days to go
96 Days Until March 1
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Caramel Apple Streusel (Seasonal Flavor)

Tuesdays have become Treehouse Day and errand running day to everywhere that isn't Branson. Besides all of the regular stuff, today included a trip to the coffee roaster. Our Base Camp Premium Coffee is custom roasted from beans from all over the world (at least places in the world where coffee grows) Some of my favorites besides the traditional Colombian varieties is Costa Rica, Sumatra and Guatemala. There are others that are all a little different and good, but it's hard to narrow down our selections to a few that are manageable to keep in a reasonable inventory.

Today, in addition to all of the normal custom roasts that we carry, I picked up a big variety of flavored blends to try out. Among them were; Caramel Apple Streusel, Butter Rum, Tiramisu, Chocolate Raspberry, Holiday Spice, Blueberry, Butterscotch Toffee, Coffee Cake and Cinnamon Sticky Bun. I know that Coffee "Purists" don't think much of flavored coffee, but hey..... I'm going for coffee drinking pleasure, not "coffee snob" perfection. Since it's so hard to judge what everyone likes, I'm thinking of doing a 10-12 variety of blends and flavors as a sampler packet. We'll see. In the meanwhile, I get to enjoy all kinds of exotic coffee's as the colder weather sets in and I spend more time inside by the fire.

November 25 - Resort Adventures

November 25, 2019
Day 329 - 36 Days to go
97 Days Until March 1
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Lake (Colombia/Sumatra blend)

Once again, we are closing in on 70 degree weather in late November. I've meant to wrangle our Jon Boats out of the water now for over a month. So far, something else has always taken priority. Today however, the delays came to an end. Between Dave and I we began the process of removing the motors from the boats and then the boats from the water. Dave offered to paddle them around the dock once the motors were off. I didn't argue with him and it's probably better that I didn't. He actually seemed to be enjoying it.

I used to dread Mondays and returning to work after a short weekend. Any more, I look forward to the odds and ends weird things I end up doing on Mondays (and any other day of the week for that matter) That's why the "Adventure" is an adventure. Even if all we are doing is moving some boats around, it beats everything I did for 30 years at a normal job! (Especially on Mondays!)
