July 4 - Resort Adventures

July 4, 2020
Day 186 - 180 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Ozark Mountain Turtle (Chocolate/Caramel/Pecan flavor)

Independence Day at the Rainbow Haven Resort has two traditions. The first is the feast. The July 4 "Posse" always organizes a huge barbecue Pot-Luck style feed for the entire group. The second tradition is Fireworks, which can be divided into first, second and third Fireworks. To me, I've reached the point in life where the fireworks holds a casual interest and certainly secondary behind anything having to do with barbecue's and food. Food included everything from hot dogs, smoked bologna, pork steaks and ribs with all the fixings. I'm okay if the day ends right after the food.

The Fireworks tradition includes the City fireworks launched right off the island in front of the resort, which is "1st Fireworks", After that comes "2nd Fireworks" made up of all of the kids firing off their Pyro hordes from the parking lot. All the while, the "3rd Fireworks" is setting up in the parking lot. This "3rd Fireworks" is by far the biggest, longest, loudest and brightest. It's orchestrated by some annual guests of the resorts who make it their goal each year to "out-do" the official city fireworks display. This year they went over and above anything in past years. Their display lasted two full hours, was bigger than anything they had ever put together in the past and was spectacular. It's too bad that the crowd in town to see fireworks are all gone by the time "3rd Fireworks" starts. They would not believe that a private display could far surpass the "1st Fireworks" display.

Anyway, it all wrapped up around 12:30 am on the 5th and I suppose the 4th had officially come to a close for yet another year.
