Day 341 of the Adventure

I'm going to take a break from the "Starting with Nothing" posts for a couple of days. We've been on the run a little bit lately and haven't had the chance to sit by the morning fire and drink coffee. Can't be having that! So today, we're back to the sunrise fire, soaking up the woods, the wood smoke and the Highlander Grogg! For those of you unfamiliar with our Base Camp Coffee, Highlander Grogg is a blend of Colombian coffee with butterscotch and rum flavors added.

Why is the morning fire such an important part of our day? I think it has to do with the years, indeed decades, that we spent "Chasing life all over tarnation!" to quote an author I once read. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I read it, even though the quote has stuck with me for a long time. It's true though. It's very easy to get caught up in chasing a "rat race" kind of life, and I certainly have the tendencies to do just that. Part of what helps keep those tendencies in check is sitting by the fire at sunrise, reflecting on the quiet solitude of life once you've detached from the rat race. The biggest problem for me is that the "Rat Race On-Ramp" is always very near at hand. Fortunately, once the fire and coffee sets in for a few minutes, I can usually find something a little slower paced to occupy my day.
