Day 406 of the Adventure
Taking a quick break from the "Getting Started" series and enjoying one of the simple cabin pleasures today. A Coffee Pot on the Wood Stove. The stove has probably replaced the campfire pit for my morning coffee now. Yes. I could build a roaring fire every morning to make outdoor coffee tolerable. However, it would take a lot of wood and I wouldn't be able to sit comfortably anyway while trying to journal my thoughts for the blog posts. So remaining in the cozy cabin sitting near the fire and listening to the old porcelain coffee pot percolating will be routine for a while.
Today begins a stretch of cooler...... let's not kid ourselves..... a colder run of weather. It will also certainly be the last day we have to prepare for sub-freezing temperatures to come. The only real issues remaining at Camp Run-Amuck are related to the water lines. There is about a hundred-foot section that still needs covered with soil and a section at the end of the line that is sticking out of the ground at the surface. So, once coffee is done, I'll need to get the tractor up the hill to cover the section of open trench. The short section near the cabin exposed above ground will get a heat tape treatment for now. A number of years ago, back when we owned four resort properties, I had a perpetual war going on with Winter that included strategic and tactical use of heat tapes. (Here's a Link to the story) Nowadays, I am very content to use just one of them to keep me out of trouble. Nevertheless........... You can never turn your back on Winter..... or it's surprise early arrival ambush..........
