December 12 - DIY Homestead - Skills, Abilities, Tools and Determination.

December 12, 2022

Day 437 of the Adventure

Me with some of my favorite tools
My rant from yesterday is mostly behind me now. (at least for a little while) I think the thing that upsets me about it is the loss of any kind of self-sufficiency that comes with it. I certainly don't feel like everyone should necessarily be on the same page as others when it comes to developing skills, abilities and competence regarding self-sufficiency. I just feel bad when so much opportunity is within our grasp and it gets squandered away for the utopian idea that we deserve everything and more of what life has to give us. In fact. I have to be careful, for the rant is returning.

Maybe its just the "give a man a fish or teach him to fish" lesson. When I was younger, my top gifts to receive on birthdays or Christmas were always tools of some kind. Two things happened when tools happened. They gave me an increased ability to do things for myself. They gave me an increased ability to earn a living when times were hard. Kind of like they are now. The difference is, hard times or not, right now I possess the skills, tools and abilities to do just about everything I need to do at our DIY Homestead project. Actually, the ONLY thing we have not done here is pull the high voltage electrical service through the conduit we installed and set the wire and transformer. I don't know how to do that, don't want to know and wouldn't be allowed to do it even if I knew. So that's okay by me. There's nothing better to arm yourself with for a self-reliant life than tools, the skills to use them and the ambition to do so.

Carry On

Adventure Quote: “It always astounds me that every single human being is blessed with immeasurable potential that is never taken out of the box. But what’s even most astounding is the fact that they don’t even realize that there’s a box to take something out of.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough
