Day 106 - 259 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Caramel Apple (just because it tastes extra good)
I began the day with many options but decided to see if I could figure out what was wrong with the Rainbow Haven Resort pool pump. After all, we are in the 80's today and good looking weather as far as I can see in the forecast. We normally leave the pumps running all winter jut to keep things from freezing. Wouldn't you know, when we went on our November cruise last fall, temps dropped into the freezing range and it was precisely then when the pump decided to quit working. The motor was fine but no water was moving. Today I discovered the reason.
Of all the plastic and aluminum parts that make up the pump, the one single thing that was not aluminum or plastic was the half inch steel impellor shaft coming off the motor. Naturally, it was the steel shaft that snapped right in two. (I'm still trying to figure that one out) So people ask why I don't spend money on fireworks around the fourth of July? Because..... BOOM.. There went $650! By the time I got everything needed to get the pool running again, I set us back a few days on the budget. (Part of the Adventure I keep telling myself)
After a few hours of replacing components, it was all up and running again with surprisingly no freeze up damage. I chlorinated the system up as it ran and within about a half hour I saw the squatters, in the form of frogs, deciding it was time to find a new home.
So today we begin the transition from frog pond to Crystal Clear swimming for the summer. Remember today, April 16. I predict that by April 24, we will have our blue water back!
The Last Resort Project: Worked the pool today so nothing new to report.
