Day 208 - 157 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Highlander Grogg (Butterscotch/Rum flavor)
So today I grappled with a problem......Literally. Recently while at the lumber yard, Shelley caught me looking through the chains for something just right. Her impatience with me was becoming evident and I simply said I need something that will fit the grappling hook so I can pull some trash out of the lake around the dock while the water is low. I'm not sure she believed me, but nevertheless, I kept searching until I found the size I was after. With the low water, there's been a lot more obstacles to deal with around the Dock and I'm starting to get tired of it. So a-grappling I will go!
I suppose if there's an up-side to the low water, it's that the junk in the lake is easier to see and presumably pull out. That's the theory anyway. I started with a mangled up old 55 gallon steel drum that is partially buried in the silt right behind where one of the pontoons is docked. I can't tell you the number of times I've run into it. Now that I know exactly where it's at, I can avoid it most of the time. But today was the day we did battle. I hate to say that today I lost. I did manage to pull pieces of it loose but the bulk of it still remains. I even had a winch attached at one point and still couldn't get it to budge.
Needing a victory, I took on a small tree lodged in the mud right where I park the boats being staged to go out. It's also been a nuisance and once my grapple took hold of it, the darn thing came right out.
We'll see how I feel about tackling more lake bottom trash tomorrow.
I wonder if there's any chests of Spanish Gold to be pulled out? I suppose Joe beat me to all of that!
