Day 238 - 127 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Trail (Guatemala)
Today we said our farewell's to Shelley's dad, Don Huisman. Don passed away last Wednesday and was the second parent Shelley and I lost in less than a month. First was my mom and now Shelley's dad. I suppose the passing of time sneaks up on us quicker that we expect it to. Shelley was planning a visit to see him when things settled down here a little. That didn't work out the way she planned. One of the things I remember and always will about Don was that when he was having a good time with his friends, he would holler out "WHO HAS MORE FUN THAN WE DO?" It's one of the phrases I adopted to myself. Now that he's gone, I'll probably use it more often. Don served his community for nearly three decades as a Police Officer. Our son Caleb, Don's grandson, followed in his footsteps and has been a policeman now for almost his first decade. He delivered a very touching policeman's tribute to his Grandpa "Duke" at the funeral and there were few dry eyes at it's conclusion. It included the placement of one of Caleb's Policeman's Challenge Coin's in Don's pocket as a memento of his service.
