Day 272 - 93 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Lake (Colombia/Sumatra blend)
Another week is in the books at The Resorts. There's only one more day of September left and the next three days are all supposed to be in the 90's. I think we got a bonus Summer month this year. Even with that, the season is definitely starting to change. The evenings are now comfortably cool and campfires are now enjoyable. Early morning coffee goes down better at 7am when it's 68 degrees than it does when it's 82 degrees out. Sunday's are typically slow all year but even more so once Fall starts to set in. It's usually a day of reflection for me and one of relaxation in between the occasional tackle shop and boat rental customers.
Part of that reflection time this year is on the resorts themselves. As we continue to make improvements around the properties, I can't help feeling a level of excitement building about our next resort move. For never actually planning to be in this business, it certainly has become a dominant part of our lives. A pleasant one as well. It's hard not to feel a sense of satisfaction knowing where we came from. Before our "business life" one of my dreams was to have more time to spend simply enjoying nature and outdoor activity. I never believed the resort business itself could provide that. But it has. Yes, it can be very hectic when the vacation season is in full swing. But that time of year makes all the rest of the year worthwhile.
The Last Resort Project: The boys are relaxing today (as far as I know) in preparation for this weeks upcoming work on the big house. The property is definitely showing signs of life again. It's no secret that it is for sale and I believe it will only be a matter of time before there is a new owner here. It would make a decent nightly "resort style" rental property if the work continues, but for now it is becoming a solid residential rental property that is easily providing adequate income to cover all expenses. My goal is to complete the renovations on the house by the end of October and add one more tenant to the little community growing there. If you have ever wanted to find a way to "Get your Housing for Free" it's possible. Read this article I wrote at the following link "Change Your Thinking - Get Your House for Free" (ironically, The resort property I describe as the "Buying our Swimming Pool" IS the Last Resort property!)
You get a house and a "Resort Adventure" of your own all at the same time!
