Day 408 of the Adventure

Yesterday, we began the tale of harvesting the first deer at Camp Run-Amuck. I guess we will need to rename our place "Run-Amuck Deer Camp" for selected dates in November from now on. I'm sure I'm making it more dramatic than necessary. I think the fun of it is that Shelley is experiencing the "thrill of the hunt" for the first time and bringing deer camp traditions into the mix makes it even better for her.

On a more practical note, adding a bit of venison to the freezer will be nice. I've never been a trophy hunter and even though we have seen nice bucks on occasion down here, meat is still the primary goal. As it turns out, in our county, a hunter can harvest up to three deer. I don't think I feel up to the challenge of butchering three of them, but I think two would be manageable. So, with one down, Shelley has now set herself a goal of another. Season does last for over a week though, so who knows. If we can get one or two processed before it's over, maybe I'll let her try to put a third one in the deep freeze. It's just another piece of the Self-Sufficient Life........
