December 3 - DIY Homestead - Down-Size Magic

December 3, 2022

Day 428 of the Adventure

Part of my Early Morning, Cold Weather routine
Yesterday, I touched a little on the necessity of taking everything a day at a time when it comes to building up a self-sufficient lifestyle. We've been through a number of odd transitions over the past ten or so years. All of them seemed to involve a down-sizing of our life. It started with the purchase of the little cabin property we did back in early 2011. Who would have guessed that a summer living in a small 23' camper would ultimately lead to a whole new lifestyle. One that would include cabin and treehouse rentals along with various kinds of campsites. But that's another story. Living in that small camper for a Summer was an eye-opening experience. It demonstrated just how easy (with a few exceptions) it could be living without a lot of the "necessary stuff" we had come to rely on over the years. The experience of working on some old broken-down cabins for the summer became a breath of fresh air of life. Between close contact with some cabin renovations and the Summer and Fall living in a 200 square foot camper, everything changed for me. From that point on, we lived in a variety of cabins we began to accumulate along with a couple of RV's. The experience gave me an appreciation for smaller living, along with the appreciation of how much less it cost to downsize. Plus, we ended up, almost by accident, accumulating cool assets (cabins, campsites and treehouses) that actually became the basis of our income. How much better can things get???

As we are in the early stages of yet another adventure, we are taking the things we've learned in the recreational property experiences and overlaying it onto our "Cabin in the Woods" life. One that we are integrating homestead and off-grid elements which all contribute to a more self-sustainable journey. Obviously, not everyone would be interested in this kind of a life. Those who are can potentially find confirmation that, yes, it's not only possible, but it's also not all that complicated. All it takes is a strong enough desire to take some kind of a first step. It's what our blog posts and video channel is all about. It cost's nothing more than a click and then a Subscribe if you find any of it of value. I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, so if I can figure it out, so can you.

Carry On
