Day 429 of the Adventure

I am not typically one to make a big deal about my birthday. After all, it is just another day. Today I'm going to make an exception. The reason......... Birthday Breakfast! Today was the first day we've cooked breakfast in the cabin, and it happened to coincide with my birthday. The fact that we are now cooking breakfast indoors is far more significant than any birthday! The smell of a hearty breakfast cooking is one I really have not experienced in over six months. It was wonderful. Another milestone at the Cabin in the Woods.

I had another thought today that I haven't considered since a year ago. During the resort years, today would have been day 4 in our "90 days 'til Spring" countdown. It's a ritual I began a few years ago to help me mentally manage the 90 days between the first of December and the end of February. The cold months, when anything can happen that's related to the cold around the resorts. Usually, it was high heating bills and broken water pipes. Of course, the treehouses still will have a little of that to think about, but there's a crew of very competent people watching over all of that. Down here in the woods I've not really given it a second thought. Our supply of firewood is adequate. We have multiple back-up systems in the event of a power outage. I have a three month supply of coffee and a view of the woods. This year I believe I will forego the countdown and just soak up the slow rhythm of Winter.
