April 14 - The Campfire Trail - A Different Kind of Trail

Day 926 of the Adventure

Just like with the first half of Shelley's birthday being scheduled almost a half month late, the rest of her birthday gift was scheduled today. Nearly a full month late. It's okay though. That's the way we roll. Speaking of rolling and trails, she wanted the entire tribe to do the "Top of the Rock" golf cart trail. I was happy to go along with it because the entire family would be present. I'll have to admit, I was much more impressed than I expected to be. I suppose that shouldn't surprise me. After all, it is a Johnny Morris creation. Like everything else he sets his hand to, nothing less of spectacular will do. 

The tour itself was rewarding enough, but I also was subjected to our own private tour-guide, namely Mike! Mike is the Master-Mechanic of MV Treasured Times, which you've seen us on in videos. It's the boat they call "27 Tons of Fun". He's also the mastermind behind the "Backwoods Bug-Out going on a few miles from here. Which you can also see videos of.  I'm less confident in his interpretive skills when it comes to identifying extinct species of cave dwelling creatures and native Ozark Wildlife. I was, however impressed with the mental gymnastics he had to go through to describe one of my favorite displays along the trail. The one he referred to as the "Stag-o-Saurus". You'll just have to wait for the video to appreciate that. 

Overall though, the grandkids had a great time. They dismounted the golf carts at every opportunity to explore the trail. As did their parents. I was very content to be a driver, videographer and lead wrangler of the grandkids for the day and spend a happy day among family.
