April 19 - The Campfire Trail - No Such Thing As Too Much Back-Up

Day 931 of the Adventure

From the ground, we've always had limited perspectives of the backwoods cabin and surrounding "busy-ness". As of this weekend, we have a few new perspectives from the treetops. Our son brought a drone to have a look around the place and delivered some nice videos and photos. Even after all of the work we've done there for the past two and a half years, seeing it from the sky was fun. Obviously, the cabin and back deck stand out without question. The smaller building to the left is where all the magic happens. Inside that structure is a 15 Kilowatt Solar Inverter/Charger. It enables us to convert the sun's energy to 48-volt DC power stored in a series of batteries in the same building. The Inverter also converts the stored DC battery power into 110V and 220V household power to feed the cabin. The smaller little roof extension you see on the electrical utility building houses a 9,000 watt back-up generator. It provides power for running the entire property and charging the batteries in the event the grid power is down and the sun has been absent due to cloud-cover or storms for an extended period. Is all this over-kill?........... I think not! hahaha!
