March 30 - The Campfire Trail - 3/4 Acres of Effort

Day 911 of the Adventure

Obviously, the biggest project of the year so far has been trying to get a garden area established. I can't say get a garden area "ready". That would imply that we are just going through the normal springtime getting ready for planting. Now that we're maybe about half way done, I think I can declare that it may turn into the biggest project of the year! It's a transformation of raw woodland into suitable garden space. The size of it is another matter. At about 70 feet by 60 feet, the entire enclosed area is pushing 3/4 of an acre in total size. That's meant the removal of about 10 adult oak trees. Countless smaller ones. Brush removal. Perimeter fence building. Raised bed building. Leveling a space for a greenhouse. Building a rainwater collecting system and more. Notably, the cleared area needed to be large enough to create maximum sunlight exposure to the solar panels we plan on placing along the north side fence facing to the south across the garden area. Big job, but it's starting to look like something finally.
