May 12 - The Campfire Trail - A Greater Purpose

May 12, 2024

Day 954 of the Adventure

The general beauty of a garden appeals to those who enjoy the color, texture and sounds of plants, flowers and birds. Then there's me. I like all of that but I also LOVE architectural elements with angles and structure. (I'm weird that way) So when I see the arch of the hoop greenhouse, the angles of the perimeter fence and now the pitch of the early stages of the solar panel rack, I know this garden has something for me as well! For the sake of the garden, this part of it means nothing. For the sake of the panels that will be installed on it, the garden is indispensable. The garden is one of only a couple places on the entire property where the trees have been cleared enough to create a significant "Sun-Space". Although it's mostly shaded in this picture. The pic was taken late in the afternoon while the sun was escaping far to the west where big oaks shade the afternoon garden.

This rack, built against the north part of the garden deer fence, will contain 12 solar panels which face to the south. These panels will be more than enough to power our entire "homestead". Of course, there are several other components involved along the way getting that power into service. Cables, Inverter, Charger, Batteries and all the proper connections. Most of which are already in place and in service. The final addition to the system will be a larger collection of batteries. The eight smaller batteries we are currently using will keep us going as long as we are conservative in our electrical usage. The sixteen big batteries we've recently acquired will ramp that up to about quadruple the storage capacity. Everything has a purpose and the garden area is providing just one more reason for its important role in the backwoods homestead!

Carry On
