I awoke last night to a "Howling" in our woods behind the cabin. Not coyotes or wolves, or even werewolves or Bigfoots...... Bigfeet?....... Squatches! No..... Our "Howling" last night was a strong north wind as snow was blowing mostly sideways across the back deck. There was not a lot of it in the forecast, really just a dusting. But it was sure making its presence known. I had to retrieve firewood a half a dozen time last night. Both before going to bed and then through the night. As stated in previous posts about our firewood routine, I don't waste extra motion getting dressed to go out and get wood. It's; 1) Get out of bed. 2) Go out into the cold. 3) Grab some firewood. 4) Get back into the cabin. 5) Put wood in stove. 6) Go back to bed. As a matter of fact. It just took me longer to describe the process than the process actually takes. Last night, step 2 and 3 were pretty brisk. If the wind is not blowing, I'm normally back inside before the cold gets a chance to impress me that much. When the cold brings some strong wind with it, it's a different story. Oh well, last night was actually just a trial run for Tuesday night coming up. The latest forecast includes fourteen inches of snow and six below zero. I wonder what I'll be saying about that by Wednesday morning. Nothing good, no doubt. I guess I need to make sure my wood box is fully stocked ahead of time for this one!
