A Rewarding Effort - March 5 - The Campfire Trail

Day 1,251 of the Adventure


Free Electricity......... Well, it really isn't  Free! There's a price to be paid for free anything I suppose. I'm not sure yet but it's possible we may be getting the rest of our big batteries this coming week to finish off our solar plant that runs the bulk of our backwoods retreat. Last fall, the first installment of them were delivered by our kids from Florida. They are due back here soon and will possibly be able to bring the rest of them. 
When I refer to the term "Free", it's more of a "Free once it all gets set up" kind of Free. I've always been fascinated by the idea of solar power. I'm also very well aware of the complications of scale that comes with it. Critics of solar are quick to point out the inefficiencies of it and its lack of suitability for large scale power solutions. I get that and don't disagree. That being said, on a small scale, it can add quite an interesting dynamic to living frugally and independently from grid services. If we are able to complete our battery bank in the coming weeks, I plan to do a deeper dive into the operation of our system. It's getting a little bit exciting!
