When The Going Gets Tough - March 6

March 6, 2025

Day 1,252 of the Adventure

Not just a clever quote or the lyrics of a great song, "When the going gets Tough" is a way of life in the world of "Off-Grid", "Backwoods" living. More often than I would like to admit, I find myself playing catch-up on projects, tasks and even blog postings and videos because of some kind of "Tough Going" that we've encountered. One example of that is from the source of the pic in this particle. The day I was sprayed in the face with hot grease. The grease itself was not the issue so much as the cause of it was. I had managed to derail one of the tracks off of the skid loader while moving dirt from the basement dig to our stock-pile in the woods. That incident created a one-day delay in the work while I fought to get it all back together. If you're trying to connect the dots on how ripping a track of a machine leads to grease in the face, it's a long story and you may as well just use your imagination! Actually, the "Going gets tough" that I'm referring to today is one of those seemingly "Everything possible is conspiring against me at once" kind of experiences. In all fairness, that sort of thing happens to everyone from time to time. You do not need a backwoods homestead for that! I think it's just easier to blame all of it on something related to the homestead or off-grid life when that happens though. I went through one of those periods this past week and was ready to throw in the towel on all of it. he trouble is, I can't simply get mad and quit. There are far too many things going on for that. I could, however, get mad and quit the things that weren't critical to our life and lifestyle. My targets became things like this blog, our YouTube activities and all of the interaction we have with various social media platforms. As I reeled in my frustrations, I came to my senses on the blog and videos as a worthwhile part of our goals. Many other things got booted to the sidelines. Maybe temporarily, maybe permanently. We'll have to see about all of that. Until then, I feel better and am prepared to climb back into the saddle and "ride this bronc" until I beat it into submission, or it beats me.  Until then......

Carry On

Adventure Quote:
“If you are faced with a mountain, you have several options.
You can climb it and cross to the other side.
You can go around it.
You can dig under it.
You can fly over it.
You can blow it up.
You can ignore it and pretend it’s not there.
You can turn around and go back the way you came.
Or you can stay on the mountain and make it your home.”
