Day 1,267 of the Adventure
The Backwoods Bug-Out has gone active again for this spring. For those unfamiliar with the unique and completely off-grid project going on here, it's a fun story. Built in the rugged Ozark mountains, mere steps away from 250,000 acres of National Forest, the "Bug-Out" is a refuge being built by family members. Mike and Adreane are the driving force behind the effort, they began by purchasing land a couple years ago, added more adjacent land last year and are currently scouting for yet more. The adventures have been many, including stranding every piece of equipment they own, at one time or another, at the bottom of the steep valley. A combination of; four-wheel drive, tracked drive, and hydraulics have kept any of it from becoming permanent additions to the bottom land. Nevertheless, temptation to expand down the valley is evidently too irresistible to avoid. I've really never determined if the Bug-Out is an emergency escape or just a playground. I guess it doesn't really matter, it servers both descriptions really very well. Shelley and I got involved today by helping pick up and deliver a 300-gallon diesel fuel tank to the property. Diesel is the fuel of choice here and the only single thing that runs on anything else is a small 9,000 watt generator. It seldom is ever used as the 20,000 watt diesel generator is much more convenient, more fuel efficient and powers everything better when a generator is needed. With the recent addition of another 16 batteries for the solar plant, the generators have not been called upon this trip.
