Day 1,278 of the Adventure
Over the past few months, we have often discussed the need for some practical preparation for weather events. Much of it surrounds the understanding of what is most likely to impact your geographical area. Then, be as prepared as possible for that. In our case, living in SW Missouri, we often see ice storms in the winter, severe weather outbreaks and potential tornadoes in the Spring along with flooding and flash flooding. This coming four days has up to 10" of rain along with severe storms predicted for the area just south and east of us. Some predictions are saying up to 17" over this period. We are certainly in the zone, but not the exact center of it. Unless, of course, the center shifts in our direction. My insistence that basic preparedness is a life skill everyone should possess is likely going to play out in real time between now and the end of the weekend. Being prepared for severe storms and flooding is at its peak right now. Yet, I have no doubt there will be those who will fail to plan for these events. In a way, we ourselves are not prepared for a tornado event. We are aware of it, have a bit of a plan but the fact that our storm shelter is not yet complete, leaves us somewhat vulnerable. We'll talk about this again on the backside of this series of storms that are coming. Attempting to once again stress the importance of basic disaster prep.
