Day 1,319 of the Adventure
There are things in life that are easy to explain and things that defy explanation! This is one of the "Defies Explanation" variety! There were two participants. One was unwilling......... The other, I'm sure was not all that willing! All the rest of us were simple spectators. It all began with a day of fishing off the back of Treasured Times. The big fish were biting but not quickly enough to keep us all interested. Mike began fishing for the smaller fish swarming the boat and specifically the chum bag. Mangrove Snappers made up the majority of those smaller fish. Delicious to eat but none were measuring up to the length limit. One special note of interest with Mangrove Snappers is their set of "vampire fangs". Among what looks like smaller teeth, they sport two massive and very sharp fang-like teeth. Being smaller fish, they are also feisty when being handled. Mike had been unhooking them for return to the water over the back deck table. A maneuver meant to contain them and keep them from flopping themselves onto the floor making them even more aggravating to recover as they would flop their way all over the deck among chair legs, table legs people legs, dive tanks, coolers, dip nets and everything else. While attempting to block the edge of the table with his body, a Mangrove combatant sunk his vampire fangs into Mikes shorts. Fortunately, for Mike, the zipper flap was the extent of the attack. Once the grip had been established though, the Snapper would hang on tight for as long as possible, occasionally thrashing himself around in an attempt, we presume, to inflict bodily harm. The fight ended when Mike dangled this unwanted appendage over the railing of the boat. Whether the Snapper sensed a proximity to water or had just grown weary of the fight, he finally let Mike loose and splashed back into the water. The fish won, Mike won, and all is well in the world of blue water fishing once again.
