Wet and Rainy to Hot and Sunny - June 20

June 20, 2025

Day 1,358 of the Adventure

Our house building project has gone from "Cold and Frozen" to "Wet and Rainy" to "Hot and Sunny". I guess I prefer hot and sunny to the other two because we can still work in hot and sunny. We get decent shade in the morning up until about 10:30am. Then it's full sun (if there's no clouds)
then we get back to shade around 5:00pm. This picture was taken at around 4:45. So our work-day consists of about 7am until 11am and then again after 5pm until we quit. The progress is slow but steady. I'm a little disappointed in myself that the heat plays so much of a role in our schedule. It didn't used to have that much of an effect on me. Our outdoor thermometer read 97 degrees around noon (in the shade) and the sun was beating down on the worksite from then until now (close to 5) As you can see though, the tree shade is just now reaching where I've been working on the storm shelter wall on the far side. We are setting reinforcing steel around the top perimeter and tying it off to the vertical reinforcement bars coming up through the wall. Once done, we'll build some forms around the top and fill all of it with cement. The "upstairs" or main floor of this section will be a summer kitchen where we can do canning and food preservation without heating up the house. Of course, if we ever decide to bake like 12 pies at a time, this will be the area for that as well! I'll let you know if I ever win that battle!

Carry On
