20 + 44 = Me - July 20 - Grumpy Prepper Chronicles 06

Day 1,388 of the Adventure

I've figured out that the main difference between me and a 20 year old is 44 years! Actually, after thinking about it, it's the 44 years of extra wear and tear that's the real problem. When I was about early 40's something, I found it funny when I was trying to focus in on a piece of trim I was nailing. I was holding it by myself with a left hand and a left shoulder while trying to line up a nail gun for a shot. My problem was, when using my shoulder to help brace it in place, my face was about three inches away from the trim and I couldn't focus my eyes on it good enough to really see what I was doing! Oh, so that's what old people talk about when the say "Hold it farther away so I can see it!" I dismissed it with a chuckle........... It's not funny anymore. I also noticed around that same time that once I got down on the floor to work on something, I really should have had a plan for getting back up. I joked that I'd have to roll myself over to a piece of furniture or window curtain that hung low enough to pull myself back up. I won't say I've got bad eyesight, or bad knees, or bad shoulders, or bad back, or bad hips, but I will confess that none of it is anywhere near as good as it used to be. Some parts worse than others. Climbing up and down ladders, crawling around on a roof or mixing cement and laying blocks all stand in as a testament to my age and partial state of broken down-ness. Still, I suppose I'll keep up the charade of pretending to be in my prime and keep pressing forward. After all, there's a house to build and it ain't going to build itself. I know. I checked this morning and it was exactly in the same condition as it was when I knocked off yesterday! So here's to all us old guys who just don't have the good sense to know when we should slow down!
