Day 1,389 of the Adventure
Okay, I have a weird indulgence. I like watching reaction videos on YouTube. Reaction videos are when ordinary people watch a movie, listen to a song or watch some other form of video for the first time and record their live reaction to it. I ran across a group of reactions to the song "A Country Boy Can Survive" by Hank Williams Jr. the other day and watched a few of them. The song, (
here's a link to it) is about how capable country folks are when it comes to "surviving". What I thought was funny in the reaction part was how the "reactors" almost all commented that if the economy, or the world in general, went sideways, how they knew that the answer for them would be to escape the city and flee to the country, where people had survival skills. It's a good theory, but in reality, if you wait that long, you'll be too late. Most have already learned their skills and positioned themselves for dealing with hard times or calamity far ahead of you. If "Stuff Hits The Fan" it's very likely they won't take too kindly to outsiders trying to muscle their way into their world expecting to be taken care of or taught how to do it after the fact. The book "One Second After" deals with how all of that would go down and it's not a pleasant prospect where simply escaping to the country is going to solve the problem. The time to develop the skills, and positioning for anything, whether big or small, is now.
