Day 1,384 of the Adventure
I started reading a book I found at dad's place after he passed away a couple weeks ago. It's one that I doubt he actually read. The subject of it really wasn't where his interest was focused. I had heard about this book from some of the "Preparedness" groups I follow. They all highly recommended it. It is fictional but based on the very real threat of a "grid down" event. In the case of this story, it was a cataclysmic EMP event or "Electromagnetic Pulse" which again, is a real thing. Some say the probability of an EMP is very remote. Others say it's inevitable. I don't know. I would be more apt to believe in a regional grid failure over the total collapse of grid services along with the accompanying destruction of all electronic devices at the same time as a result of a full EMP. Still the story was a captivating one from the perspective of how we've come to rely completely on the luxuries of electricity and electrical devices. It's sobering how devastating things can get with a sudden absence of those staple luxuries in our lives. I planned a slow read of this and it turned into about a four-day speed read. At a little over 500 pages, that's saying something about how strongly the storyline draws the reader in. I think I may elaborate on a few of the main points of what I felt was important in the reading of One Second After over the next couple of days. Until then........
