March 16 - Resort Adventures

March 16, 2019
Day 75 - 290 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost in the Woods (Colombia/Costa Rica blend, it's a great morning blend)

Saturday in mid-March with 60 degree temps brings out...… EVERYBODY. This is what it looked like by mid morning. Our Lake at Rainbow Haven Resort and Cross Timbers Cabins (and The Last Resort for that matter) is about 22 miles long from Dam to Dam. We are located about 2/3 of the way downstream from the upper end of the lake at Table Rock Dam. The water is slightly warmer here than it is in the upstream direction which supports bass and Crappie numbers to a greater extent, but it's still cold enough to keep the trout fat and happy too. The lake resemble more of a river, (because that's what it is without the dams) Its just a smaller, less sprawled out lake with a noticeable current to it.

Fishermen (and women) who love trout fishing say this is one of the very best in the entire country. It has native populations of trout, plus the Conservation commission releases close to a million trout per year into all parts of the lake. There are specific restrictions on tackle and size in the upper part of the lake, but where we are, outside of catch and possession limits, there are no tackle restrictions and the only length restriction is for Brown Trout.

Even though the lake has excellent bass and crappie fishing, it is still most well known for it's trout. At the Rainbow Haven Bait and Tackle  shop, we carry nearly anything you would need for trout fishing. The picture shows a selection of the "Trout Magnet" brand along with Rooster Tails to the left and Magic Products baits to the right. There's a lot more there as well including tackle for Crappies and Bass. Stop in when you are in the neighborhood and say high!

The Last Resort Project:
With the tackle shop buzzing today, I am pretty much stuck here taking care of business. Shelley is up the hill at The Last Resort doing some painting. That will only last for this morning. We will have our little fisherman Callahan here this afternoon and she won't want to miss that!

Still need to add the chair rail trim and do a little touch ups, but this is one of the bedrooms.
