The Last Resort Project:
The picture to the right is taken standing in the kitchen looking at the back door which opens to a privacy fenced area behind the pool where I believe we want to eventually build a small green house. A few years ago I wrote an article called "Change Your Thinking - Get Your House For Free". It was about a revelation I had by the time we owned a couple of resort properties where the property generated enough income to pay the bills for everything including the house you would be living in. We've lived that scenario now for the past eight years. Depending on how big the property (or business) is, it can provide housing and more. In the case of The Last Resort, I'm planning to get the property up to four long term rentals along with one retail/rental, a work shop and a nightly rental. I believe that the four monthly rental cabins will pay the basics for the whole property including the mortgage, taxes and insurance plus leave the house available to live in. It would be my version of "sustainable living". Things like the green house and possible small scale aquaponics system in it just add a little icing to the cake.
I believe we will have the property about half way to its income goal by mid April. This is when we will place it for sale. It will have a good start and be affordable at that point.
The Adventure will have JUST BEGUN!
