March 3 - Resort Adventures - Week 9 In The Books

March 3, 2019
Day 62 - 303 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost in the Fog (Guatemala decaf - fitting for a snow day)

Our most devastating snow of the 2018-2019 season
Week nine at The Resorts is in the books. We had a fairly busy weekend last week but the snow and cold in the forecast this week has scared everybody off. The snow has done it's thing and only amounted to about a half inch. The cold may be a different story. The "weather dudes and dudettes" are calling for it to get down to 10 degrees tonight which will be the coldest temps of the entire winter so far. (My apologies to all my friends and family in Minnesota, Iowa and North Dakota) Even though I can think of fifty things I could be doing, I think I'll declare a "Snow Day" and stay inside and relax all day!

We've wrapped up January and February which are the slowest months of the year, but looking at the business we've done so fay, we are running about 25% ahead of the same period last year as far as the business is concerned. Of course, even at that, it will be probably April before it returns from the "red" months to the "black" months. But that's okay because we know going into the winter that it will be that way until Springtime gets into full swing.

The Last Resort Project:
Sample Small Scale Aquaponics System
I pretty much stayed home and took care of office work and was lazy most of the day. Other than making rounds to see that all the heaters were working  adequately, I didn't get up to The Last Resort today. SO, I thought I would do a little research on one of the several projects we would like to do there. One of them has had me curious for a few years and my kids are even interested in giving it a try and that is the idea of Aquaponics. This is a cross between Aquaculture and fish production which the one relies on the other for support. (The picture to the left is simply a stock internet photo, but it gives you an idea of what a small system looks like)

The idea is to ultimately create a financially sustainable "Urban Homestead" of sorts.
More to come on all of that!
