Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost up the Creek (Colombian) In honor of that bunch of fishermen here tonight that ventured into Bull Creek and brought back buckets and barrels full of suckers!
I suppose it's not for everyone, but sucker snagging in the Ozarks is a BIG thing to many fishermen. The guys staying here tonight were partly of that group. I would say that the group was just about equally divided between those who love the sport and know just the right way to prepare them, and those who just love the catching of them. When you are hauling in barrels full of them at a time, you have to admit, it can be a lot of fun. Personally, I have never had the "Ozarks Version" of suckers although people say they are delicious when prepared correctly. There is even a local town boasting of it's annual "Sucker Days". I suppose I should attend someday and see if it's all it's made out to be.
Although, it could be like Boiled Peanuts, a delicacy in the south. I was fascinated with them or sale at every gas station and roadside stand when traveling through North Carolina. The fascination lasted until I decided to buy a bag of them and try them. I personally think its a practical joke being played on visitors from other parts of the country.
At any rate, our fishermen chalked this trip up as a BIG success and I'm sure will return again during another Sucker Snagging Season.
