August 9 - Resort Adventures

August 9, 2019
Day 221 - 144 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Lake (Colombia/Sumatra blend)

I woke up early today at 6:30 because we had fishermen renting boats that wanted to be on the lake by 7am. And this is fine with me, however I'm not sure I was as ready for the day as I thought I would be. Today included two non-functioning boats. One intentional trip into the lake and a near accidental one. Non-stop phone calls, reservations...… Let me start form the beginning!

Two days ago we experienced our first boat failure of the season. It happens and it's no big deal (at least this time) because we had boats to cover the schedule without that one. Then, yesterday one of the back-ups had the motor tilt glitch out on us leaving the motor stuck in the up and out of the water position. That's happened before and can be manually over-ridden but the over-ride is below water on the transom. So now with two boats down, things became more urgent After getting the 6:45 customers out on their boat, I switched my attention to the stubborn motor. It is a 30 second fix when everything goes right. After hanging upside down on the back of the boat fighting with the underwater bolt with no success, I pulled one of the smaller Jon boats along side to see if that would help from a different angle which it did not. Back onto the pontoon and leaning even further over the deck, I barely caught myself from falling in once. Giving up, I called my friend Joe who drove down and tried. He was unable to loosen the bolt as well so the next option was to drag it to the ramp and trailer it (with no power I might add) MEANING, Martin got to get into the lake and maneuver it onto the trailer. We had the boat ladder down trying to reset the motor and forgot it was down. By the time we pulled the whole mess out of the lake, we discovered the ladder was now holding the entire back end of the boat off the trailer by close to a foot. 30 seconds later, the motor was reset an we launched the boat back into the water. I won't describe to you the guy that was blocking the ramp with his boat and trailer while he fiddled with his tacklebox for 20 minutes, or the covering of myself in gas while trying to figure out the black boat's problem, or the broken chain on the floating equipment room at the dock from a boat going through the "No Wake" zone at nearly full speed, or one of the neighboring resorts sending their guests to use our pool without permission, or finding out the electrical company showed up at the Last Resort unannounced wanting me to run up and help them figure out where the new power poles were to be installed (Thank You Brad for handling that one), or the "experienced" boaters that immediately ran the motor up out of the water as soon as they left the dock with it still running, or the guy that just tied his boat to our dock right in front of the gas pump and simply left and disappeared somewhere into town., or..………..  Yeah...….It was one of those kind of days!

The Last Resort Project:
At least we know where we will be getting some new power poles installed...… I think!
