February 26 - Resort Adventures - Our Grand Opening is Almost Here!

It was January 4th when we closed on the purchase of the Marina Inn. Being the middle of Winter and everything already winterized for the season, we decided to keep it closed until around early March. Even though we have always kept our resorts open all year, as it turns out, it was a good decision to stay closed. Shelley and I got to take a well needed vacation to do some cruising on our daughter and Son-in-Law's boat "Treasured Times" in the Florida Keys. We also had a chance to work through some water and plumbing issues that we discovered before we filled up with guests. Finally, we were able to avoid most of the hassle of dealing with the unseasonal cold temperatures in mid February with most of the property closed. 

BUT......... it's now time to be thinking of getting things opened up and operational. So, with that said, we are planning our opening for March 11th which is a Thursday. If you've been following the installments of "Resort Adventures", you will know we are also working on opening a Fishing Tackle store on the property. That may be open as well by then (not completely sure yet) but even if it's not perfect, our style is to get it open and then work out the details as we go. 

So, we are entering a period of a new "Countdown". and there's only about two weeks left.

Here's a good sign at the Marina Inn. It's the first of three bundles of real wood Log Siding for the Resort. Even though the property does look nice, we just like the log look. It fits with who we are. I suppose if you are going to own and live at a resort property, it may as well look like something you would like living at!...........My logic anyway!

So, I think we will be starting the project some time this coming week. Don't worry, there will be plenty of pictures of the progress!

February 24 - Resort Adventures

Back at the Marina Inn, the work getting the new tackle shop up and going progresses. Inventory has been piled up all over the place. The tackle orders I've been receiving are actually really getting in the way. For my own sanity, I need to get it out of the various rooms where it's beginning to take up a lot of space and get it out on display. BUT........ It needs to be added to inventory first.  ARRGGHH!!!

As much work as it's been, it is nearly complete. I'm excited to get it done and move on to the next phase.

The Treehouse project has been progressing even through the cold weather last week. A lot of it had to do with electrical and plumbing, which to look at, isn't typically very interesting. It's hard to get interesting pictures of wires sticking out of a wall. But, it has to be done just like the cool, fun stuff. 

The cool, fun stuff this week is the interior walls and ceilings. It's a combination of "Beetle Kill Knotty Pine" and rusty tin. If you wonder about the gnarly wood...... it's the same kind we used in Gold Rush and so far, that cabin has been among the favorites when it comes to the interior look. The difference is this time we had Kim break out her magic and treat the wood with a whitewash treatment. It will fit the theme perfectly....... Oh sorry, what is the theme?, you may ask..........

Sorry, still not ready for to reveal that yet!  But it's getting close!

Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Trail (Guatemala..... The "Treehouse Coffee")

Besides the fact that we are in the middle of building yet another Treehouse at Branson Treehouse Adventures, we are preparing for some nice upgrades around the property as well. This pic is a bit of an office/gift shop extension. AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT'S COMPLETION! You are looking at a new commercial Coffee machine (That will feature a variety of Base Camp Coffee blends and flavors) We will also be installing a Cappuccino machine that will dispense four different flavors. All of it will be located in the Registration Office/Gift Shop at the treehouses. 

Not that we couldn't have gotten by okay without them. It's just that the smell (and taste) of fresh coffee when the doors open is just going to be SO GOOD! The room had to be expanded to fit it in and that is looking really good now too. 

AND outside............... No, I'm not going to break the silence on what we installed just outside the office just yet. It still needs a little work. For now, it's coffee and coffee station improvements. The rest later!

I planned on a Marina Inn update today but I got sidetracked by a new Treasured Times Cruising video. I'm missing the blue water of the Florida Keys. One thing we certainly have in common with the big boat is the sound of saws and air nail guns. As we watch Mike and Adreane get their boat ready for adventure cruise guests, if feels strangely familiar to our own Resort Adventure. 

This video took place about a week prior to our arrival in Marathon Key for the test cruise earlier this month. We had the benefit of a completed project while we were there.

I was up at 5am this morning coaxing a fire to life in the fireplace. Mainly because yesterday was a challenging day. Challenging to my brain more than anything else. I've been doing the "Behind the Scenes" stuff for a few days that makes all the rest of the Resort Life fun. Namely, in this case, setting up inventory, bar code system, card readers and touch screen cash register for the............

Wait for it.........

New fishing tackle store we are putting in at the Marina Inn on Indian Point.

After having sold three resorts, buying one and now operating two "Branson Treehouse Adventures" and the "Marina Inn", I find myself more interested in the kids new Adventure "Treasured Times Cruising. Personally, the "Cruising" part is fun, but just like the cabins and treehouses back home, I find the construction and modification part of the Adventure to be just as satisfying. I watched a video today that included Mike working on a "Through the Hull valve", I have no idea what it does, but watching the process of prepping it for installation was interesting all by itself. I suppose you have to be a "Repair Guy/Problem Solver" sort to enjoy this, but........ that's me and I think That's Mike too!

By the Way...... Did you notice the Rockaway Beach / Base Camp shirt Mike was wearing?
