August 7 - DIY Homestead - Run-Amuck Road Trip and Self-Sufficiency

August 7, 2022

Day 230 of the Adventure

I think it heard me mention "Road Trip"
It's Sunday and I'm feeling like a break from the homestead work. Even though today would usually be a slower, more relaxing kind of a day for us. I think it will either turn into a supply run day, or potentially a "Run-Amuck Road Trip". It's been a while since we've done one of those.  I suppose I'll leave Shelley to decide. We've even thought of the idea of doing short day trips around here for our video viewers. There are so many interesting things to do and see in the Ozarks and here we are, right in the middle of all that. It would be a shame to just work all the time and not enjoy our nearby surroundings. Maybe you'll need to watch for a short travel video coming soon.

I've been tossing the term "Self Sufficient" around quite a bit lately, and I think that is certainly one of our basic objectives here. The dictionary describes Self Sufficiency as "needing no outside help in satisfying one's basic needs". Obviously, our journey is a combination of semi-retirement (maybe) and that of experimenting with the self-sufficiency lifestyle. Also, as an objective of ours, is the idea of demonstrating the "How-To's" of accomplishing this from scratch. Our choice in this lifestyle is a personal choice. For others, it may feel like a necessity. How-ever it's viewed, by choice or by necessity, the pathway from the start is certainly an intimidating one if looking at the whole process in one big snapshot. What we intend to walk out is the basics of learning one step at a time and applying one skillset at a time. More importantly is the notion of "Doing" one step at a time.

I believe that setting out on projects beyond and bigger than our comfort zone must be in our DNA. Helping shine a light on the pathway we discover is also in our DNA. For these reasons, it's a natural fit for us to "Do and Show" the How-To's of our endeavors. We don't need for anyone to follow our journey for any reason, because it's worth the trip just for us. Yet, we will continue to outwardly demonstrate our discoveries in a "real time" way through videos and other forms of media. So, if you are making the decision to lean into more of a "Self-Sufficient" life, whether in a small way or a big way, you are welcome to walk the journey with us. The easiest way to do this is through a Subscribe on our YouTube channels and be sure to click the Notification Bell to "ALL".

Shelley has made the decision. Run-Amuck Road Trip it is!

Carry On.
