The Campfire Trail: October 3 - DIY Homestead

Day 368 of the Adventure

The day finally arrived where the log cabin siding work began. While no siding went on today, a bunch of trim went up in preparation for it. So technically, it's under way. I'm kind of anxious to video our next Sunday Morning Outdoor Breakfast with this particular wall in the background. It's been a long trek, getting to this point and our excitement to see it getting completed is pretty high.

The trees are just beginning to show hints of color other than green. Full color in our area doesn't usually happen until after mid October. The smell in the air is one of Fall now though. It's a little hard to describe but it's a combination of leaves, crisp clean air, fresh coffee and wood smoke. Some may consider our daily campfires a waste of wood. Most of it though is just trash wood that you wouldn't or couldn't use in the wood stove. It's a combination of stumps we've dug up, dead and decayed trees we've cleaned up around here and even the odds and ends lumber cut-offs. For me, the ambience of a campfire in the backwoods is a necessary part of my experience. It's a simple reward for the years of working hard at a job or business while dreaming of campfires in the woods in the back of my mind.
