Day 371 of the Adventure
I didn't put much effort into the campfire this morning and it shows. I thought that the remainder of yesterday's embers would be enough with just a little encouragement, but that was not the case. After several feeble attempts at tossing kindling at it, I finally had to be serious for at least a couple minutes. It's going now and the coffee is hot and tasty. I've also noticed that now that we are solidly into the Fall season, there is a lot more early morning activity out in the woods around me. The deer were not right up at the cabin this morning, but I could hear them in the woods not too far off. Those sounds were accompanied by turkeys yelping and gobbling on the far hillside. It's a different experience from last year when we were driving down to work here each day. We typically did not get here until between nine and ten in the morning, so all of the early activity had tapered off by then. Plus, we were driving vehicles and tractors down the hill to where we were working which likely scared everything away.
Now that we have gotten started on the log finish for the outside of the cabin, it will probably be the dominant subject for a number of updates for a while. It truly is looking good. Shelley would have preferred a real log cabin but I'm not sure I would have been up for the challenge. As it is though, it will have a decent log look to it along with other cabin features that make cabin living a special experience. Today will be another day of working on it and we are looking forward to getting it done before the weather gets too cool and potentially rainy.
Now that my fire has decided it's ready to get with it, I'm finding myself needing to move back away from it a bit to keep from cooking my shins. Have a great day and.........
