Day 834 of the Adventure

Tonight it hits bottom on the outdoor thermometer. Two below zero is what we're being told. The project today, however, has a very "Springlike" feel to it. We recently ordered up a new item and today we begin the 5-day experiment with it. It's been years since we've grown sprouts and while I Like them on salads and sandwiches, The process of making them was always just a little too much of a nuisance to be worth it. However, a recent visit to a friend has my attitude changing about sprout growing. There on his counter top was a pair of mason jars with screw on screen lids. Setting in a rack at a convenient angle to drain excess water onto a tray. He explained that a towel or washcloth can be draped over them for the first few days for the sprouting and then removed for a day or so for the greening of them. BRILLIANT!

We ordered a kit and are now poised to try some sprout raising the easy way. I assume it will be much easier than the old routine we would go through to grow sprouts. So, as the wind howls outside, we will be creating a small amount of Spring flavor on the inside. We also ordered a variety of sprout seeds. Broccoli, Alfalfa, and Salad Mix. I think we'll try broccoli sprouts first. I've placed links for the jar kits and seeds at the bottom of the page. I'll be sure to post some updates of the progress as soon as we see some.
