Day 837 of the Adventure
The Morning Biscuit and Gravy Breakfast |
The Cabin in the Woods life truly is one that includes the occasional hardship you would not expect from a more "modern convenience" life. To be sure, we have plenty of our share of conveniences, but some of life does include a slightly more primitive or off-grid approach. An example is the heating of our cabin. Our primary heat source is wood. Our secondary heat source is electric baseboards, so the convenience factor is there, I just refuse to use it outside an emergency or if we're going to be gone for a stretch of time that the woodstove wouldn't last enough to keep it warm. The stove adds an element of warmth that no other heat can compete with. It compliments the early morning shuffling around the cabin with a cup of hot coffee. The hint of wood smoke smell that hits when you step outside and catch the breeze curling the smoke over the overhang of the cabin roof. The sight of deer bounding off into the woods from their overnight beds a few dozen yards down the hill from the back deck. The aroma of biscuits and gravy cooking in the kitchen. Need I go on? Cabin Life is the life for me and I do not apologize for the good nor complain about the difficult parts of it. Life for us is one long extended campout with extra "Creature Comforts" not normally associated with camping.

Adventure Quote: “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” ―
