January 5 - The Campfire Trail - It's Here...... First Snow of the Season

Day 826 of the Adventure

Our First Blizzard of the Season
I know that EVRYONE is posting out their snow pictures today. In the Ozarks, this is just about as much snow as you can expect from a blizzard. Sometimes, this is about as much snow as you can expect for an entire season. It's not that we don't get more than this at times, just not very often. I remember when we first moved to the Ozarks from Iowa a little over 30 years ago. I was planning to be happy with minimal snowfall. Instead, the first year here we got one storm that dumped over 28" of snow in one night. That was a cruel irony. Of course, by two days later it was nearly gone and by the third day you would have never known it happened. Other than wonder why the cedar trees were all bent over and broken from the weight of it.

All that aside, this snow almost gives the impression of a winter wonderland. Not quite, but almost. The cold, a frigid 30 degrees, is keeping us in the cabin where there's a nice fire in the stove. It's about 76 degrees in here. I realized this morning that, like it or not, we would need to fire up the tractor and bring another bucket-load of firewood to the cabin sometime today. That will be all the adventure I need to be satisfied. It reminds me of a favorite line in a bit of poetry by Robert Frost. "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening"  "The woods are lovely, dark and deep....." That's our woods today with a little snow cover.

Carry On
