February 5 - The Campfire Trail - Is It Garden Time?

February 5, 2024

Day 857 of the Adventure

It's such an odd winter this year. I'm not complaining at all. Just enjoying the mostly mild season once the sub-zero of last month got out of the way. I had planned to be further along with the website and video channel but good weather keeps enticing us out. Instead of cold, it's the occasional rain that keeps us inside. Any other year, I'd be down to my 24th day on my 90 days until Spring countdown. Which is nothing more than a countdown until March that begins on December first. In SW Missouri, March 1st mostly signals the beginning of the Spring season even though it officially won't begin for another 21 days. Since we've mostly been able to ignore that since all but one of the resorts are now sold, it doesn't have the same effect relating to the anticipation of Springtime.

I have taken note of the clock ticking on one area of concern for us, and that is the garden. We know from experience that we'll need to clear an area large enough to fence everything in as a guard against browsing deer. This means the removal of a few more trees and installation of a fence. Not to mention the tilling of the garden soil, construction of the greenhouse and erecting of the water collection system we have planned there. Oh, and then re-installing the solar panels that will finally have a permanent place to call home. We may indeed be looking at close to two months worth of effort. Garden season waits for no man and I fear if we do not begin soon, we'll be left with a pile of dirt once again to achieve our make-shift garden. I don't think I'll be okay with that. It may be time to begin the garden work. So...... If you like tree cutting videos, brace yourself!
