Day 933 of the Adventure
Politics aside, the fact that we are seeing soaring prices in almost every part of life is discouraging at best. Down-right irritating at somewhere close to worst. No matter what we hear about the economy being the best in years, the fact remains that wages are not up when inflation is factored in and prices of everything is up when inflation is factored in. We can complain, nobody will listen and it wouldn't do any good anyway. We could boycott and not buy anything, but we would starve. We can pretend, like many, that it doesn't exist, that won't make it change. In reality, the only recourse we have is to do something about it at a personal level. As I looked at the list, a good portion of it is made up of things we can grow, raise or barter for. Obviously, we cannot do that with everything. But we can do that with enough of it to put a giant dent in our food consumption costs. I know I sound like a broken record, repeating the benefits of self-sufficiency over and over. But the fact that I hear the constant lamenting over grocery and fuel prices over and over from almost everyone makes me think to myself, "When are we going to 'get it' and then 'do something about it'?"
Perhaps we've forgotten what it means to be self-sufficient.
