Keeping It All Straight - March 27

March 27, 2025

Day 1,273 of the Adventure

I've been able to get a few more blocks laid up over the past few days. Not as many as I'd hoped for. This week has kept me busy on another front that we'll share about soon. With short periods of resting my brain and straining my muscles, the block walls are increasing in length and height. I've never laid block before other than dad giving me a try at it when I was eleven or twelve years old. Now at 64, I'm learning a skill that should be reserved for 20 year olds. The principles of block laying are simple. One of which is "Keep it straight and level". Level and square corners helps with that. If the corners are good, there's no reason why the "in between the corners" should not be good as well. Just follow the straight line. It sounds simple enough, but it's still a little bit of a challenge. If the mortar is too wet, the blocks want to sag below the string. If you get a rock in the mixture, sometimes that will hold the block too high. Mostly though, it's a slow and steady routine not requiring very many brain cells. Just slap on the mud and keep it all straight and level!

Carry On
