Day 1,341 of the Adventure
Ever since we decided to begin building our house down here in the woods, I've had countless suggestions that I should find some help. No doubt, I probably do need help. Lots of it!. Probably in many respects! (I'll just let that one sink in a minute) But mostly it has to do with the cement work and block laying. Both are probably the most strenuous parts of house building. My answer has pretty much been. "That's why I'm doing the hard part when I'm younger!" Which is true. Technically! I'm younger today than I will be tomorrow, and later this year when the cement work is done. Just Kidding!....... Well, actually not, but you get the idea. No, in reality, there are a couple reasons why we've decided to do this ourselves. Mentally, I kind of like the work. Physically, it's a different story. Still. The more physical I stay with the work, the better I feel, physically, in the long run anyway. I believe it is keeping me better fit at my age (64) than I would probably be if I didn't have the extra physical work going on. My lowest common denominator activity is sitting by a fire drinking coffee and maybe eating a breakfast biscuit. Those activities leave me very content, but it also gives me the energy level, speed and stamina of a Sloth. Sloth Martin is not a pretty picture. Or a productive one for that matter. So, the physical aspect of this is acceptable to me for that reason. In addition to all of that, we are recording the entire house building process for our YouTube channel. The main intent of that is two-fold. It's to help show others how it's all done in a bite-sized tutorial. Secondly, it's to help people who may think they have waited too long to start their off-grid or homestead dream to understand that even if you don't feel you can build a house, you can find someplace to start. It's not too late. I do, however, appreciate all of your concern for my well-being, if not for my sanity. I probably will hire help occasionally just to keep the process moving forward at a decent pace. Until then pass me another biscuit...... I mean, Cement Block.
