Day 1,340 of the Adventure
There is certainly a rebellion going on today and it involves me. Not all of me, just the parts that are sore and exhausted from laying cement blocks once again. For the last couple of days, the weather has cooperated with outdoor work, and we've been rain-free. It's finally become time to continue laying cement blocks for our future basement. My mind is very willing and enthusiastic. My legs, back, arms and back and......... back are protesting in a most strenuous fashion! Nothing about laying blocks is easy past the concept of it. The concept is fairly simple. Add some mortar to the wall, add some mortar to the end of the next block to be installed. Gently lower it in place with a few taps from a hammer to bring everything into alignment with the stringline and level....... Then move on to the next one. Easy to say, strenuous to do. Oh well. I can remember when we started this project late last fall. I began by laying about ten blocks before I was ready to crash. I made it up to forty-five per day when cold weather finally put an end to the work. I started this Spring with about twelve the first day. Today I raised the total to eighteen only because the 90-degree sun was blazing down on us from about 11am to 2:30pm. I plan to start earlier tomorrow, and we'll see how it goes. If I reach the point where I can average fifty per day, I'll be done in just over three weeks. Barring rainstorms which there are four days-worth of them in the forecast beginning tomorrow night.
