Day 1,338 of the Adventure
I tend to not over sensationalize things that I don't completely understand when they happen. Usually everything has some logical explanation, even if I don't know what it is. Odd sounds in the woods are a great example of this. There have been three or four times we've heard erie, even bordering on creepy sounds out in the woods around our place. They turned out to be foxes, bobcats and one time, even just kids screaming at the lake while having fun........ I presume anyway. A couple of nights ago, a mystery presented itself to me that I have not been able to solve. Strange lights in the woods, in the trees that I have yet to figure out. I'm doing a video of it for our YouTube channel to see if anyone else has a good explanation for it. The story goes as follows; We have been battling a family of racoons who have been raiding Shelley's birdfeeders at night. They knock them down and spill the contents all over the ground and then the racoon buffet begins. Shelley has resorted to taking them all down at dusk and locking them up. Then she replaces them all in the morning. There' been one lonely birdfeeder that they've seem to have left alone in this nightly rampage. It's a small, lonely birdfeeder in a dogwood tree a few yards away from the rest. Alas, once the main feeders had been removed, they turned their marauding attention to the lonely dogwood tree feeder. I heard them banging around on it one night through the open bedroom window. The moment I opened the back door onto the deck, they scattered. fifteen minutes later, they were back again, rattling and banging around trying to dislodge the feeder. They were never successful, but the racket they were creating was enough to keep me awake. I decided to just watch what they were doing via a security camera pointed their way from the back deck. I made several recordings, not that any of it would actually be of any real help. Upon reviewing one of the videos the following morning, I noticed something very odd, creepy and mysterious out in the woods. What looked to be perhaps 80 feet behind the cabin and maybe 12 or 15 feet up and behind a tree was a bright flash of light. Not the kind of light that looks as if it were shined up there. It was the kind of light that looked as if it were a camera flash bulb right up in the tree. There is nothing back there other than deep woods trees. Nothing in the distance either for half to three quarters of a mile. The terrain falls off a sloping hillside in that direction so there's really not anything in the way of distant lights either. The flash of light happened six or seven times over the course of two, one minute videos. I don't know and I can't explain it.
