Day 1,352 of the Adventure
Part of the inspiration for our "Cabin in the Woods" came from an old book entitled "Your Cabin in the Woods". It's something I had picked up at a pound sale at a bookstore Shelley and I worked at just after we were first married. At twenty-five cents per pound for books, we stocked up on just about everything that was of interest to us at the time. Self-sufficiency, building skills, cabins and gardening were among the most popular in our library. Over the years, we've gotten rid of most of them. Some of that is too bad. There's many I'd love to have back. For whatever reason, I kept my copy of "Your Cabin in the Woods" It was not a very practical "how to" book on how to build cabins, but it had a quality many books never achieve. That of being inspirational. This book created a spark of vision in me that has never faded in over 40 years. That spark became a dream of escaping to my own version of a cabin in the woods. One that essentially was finally achieved in the spring of 2022. (
Here's a link to a short video of us working on it) It was an unfinished project when we moved in and remains so to this day. I suppose that a work in process keeps the journey alive and from becoming dull. That's my reasoning anyway. Our cabin is small, 400 square feet, but is still quite a bit more elaborate than the one in this drawing. Still. I can easily find myself pouring over these cute little examples of an escape cabin in the woods. It's a journey, a destination and an on-going dream all at the same time.
