Virtues of a Simple Life - June 16

June 16, 2025

Day 1,354 of the Adventure

I guess I'm just a simple man. Yesterday I wrote a posting on part of what inspired us to build our cabin in the woods. (See the article here) What we planned was a temporary cabin to fill the gap between moving to the backwoods and building our permanent home there. To be clear, that still is part of our plan. One we have actually began working on last fall. The challenge for me is not so much the work it involves, although that is a challenge. It's not even the time it involves, although that is a challenge as well. No..... My greatest challenge is that of not being just totally okay with a small cabin in the woods. Were it not for the fact that we really would like to function with a larger kitchen, that we need more storage space for our food preservation and preps, our cabin would likely be just fine. As simple as it is right now, the way it is. I'm not sure that it's a virtue, being willing to settle for "small scale living". I think maybe it is though. As I watch the general economy devastating families from a financial and cost of living point of view, I tend to believe that "simple living" may be part of that solution. I don't know. It's just part of the many thoughts I digest every day. If it came to it, I'd be completely happy with the simple lifestyle we've been living for the past three and a half years. It's worth thinking about and considering if the frantic and costly pace of modern living is nipping at your heels.
