February 12 - Resort Adventures

February 12, 2019
Day 43 - 322 Days to go
17 Days until March 1
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Lake (Colombia/Sumatra)

We went to start dismantling the kitchen cabinets at "The Last Resort" this morning. It actually went a lot better than I expected. I think it was just habit that was holding them together. The old cabinets were made out of knotty pine wall panel boards. This is always a nostalgic look for fishing cabins. Most of the walls are made from it too. I planned to build new ones out of tongue and groove pine. After looking at the old boards, I may try to recycle the original paneling into cabinet doors if there's enough of it to do the job. I think new cabinets with the older style pine paneling doors may look really good. We'll see. In a way, (and from a distance) the old ones don't look all that bad. Reality says, it's time to replace them with something new, clean and functional. The morning progressed so well that we took a break around noon and went to pick up the supplies including some new flooring for the kitchen.

This evening when I got back to the house I received a call which will be the first of many to schedule rooms at the Rainbow Haven Resort for the "King Clan". If you've been following our Resort Adventure for a year or more, you would remember these guys. EVERY year for as long as anyone can remember, they've been gathering at our place in February for fishing and stuff. They are memorable for many reasons but foremost is their need to all jump into the pool during their February stay. Last year I got it recorded on a video and they reveled in the fact that their Cannon Balls into the water soaked me while filming them. So, here they come again, no doubt to see if they can outdo last year's February Pool Jump with even more interesting antics.

The Last Resort Project

What The Last Resort could be as a Lodge
We've finally decided on the goal for the cabins. With a house, seven cabins and a pool, this property really is one that can be a self sustaining "Cabin Adventure". We've decided to upgrade the house a bit, making it appealing to live in as an "Owners Quarters" like it was back in the Hospitality Hill days. After that, we will get at least three of the cabins fixed up to be longer term rentals giving a new owner enough rent income to keep the bills paid and then leave the rest of them to a new owner to decide on how they proceed with either monthly or nightly rentals. I've always thought that the house would work really good as a "Group Fisherman's Retreat". So whether it's used as an owners residence or a fisherman's lodge, the improvements will fit the use either way.

“I do not insist, that this is a full adventure, but it is the beginning of one, for this is the way adventures begin.”
