March 12 - Resort Adventures

March 12, 2019
Day 71 - 294 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost in the Woods (Colombia/Sumatra blend)

Today has been a Spring Storm kind of day. Rain, clouds and even a little lightning and thunder. It didn't stop our guests from getting out on the lake and doing some fishing. I think the wind the other day messed with the dock a little. One of the guide posts was jammed up a little against a roof truss. There may be a video in the making if I have to deal with it. If so..... it will involve power tools I'm sure.

I was contemplating a thought last night and it has a little bit to do with the Resort Adventure. I heard a quote that said; "People way over-estimate what they can accomplish in one year, but way under-estimate what they can accomplish in ten years". Building a resort business is a lot this way. Enthusiasm and a big dream will only take you so far (or maybe so far, so quick) I've known a number of people who have gotten very excited and either started and gave up after a few months or a year or so (true with any endeavor) when the bigger the vision, the longer it's going to take. We've been at the resorts for right at eight years now and have built up to four of them and none of them are where we want them to be yet. It's just an on-going..... Adventure!

If you have a dream to do it, Plan for a few years.

The Last Resort Project:
I finished up some caulking and other minor things this morning and Shelley was up there this afternoon doing some accent color painting. It's hard for me to think cabins without thinking the traditional Knotty Pine and Hunter Green trim. So that what it got today was a bit of the Green. Just in time for St Patrick's Day.

If there is one thing I'm doing different on this renovation from renovations of the past, it's getting a better run of progress pics. People who have lived in this house in the past will not believe how cool it's starting to look now. The door you are looking at in the picture exits out to a private little back yard where we are planning to eventually build the small green house with the aquaponics system. That will be a while because there will be at least 2 cabin renovations before it...….. All in good time!

“Adventures always come to the adventurous, there's no doubt about that!”

Gift shop feature of the day is a: "They can Swim, But They can't Hide" coffee mug.

Call me at: 417-234-4394 to order one.
