August 21 - Resort Adventures

August 21, 2019
Day 233 - 132 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Lake (Colombia/Sumatra blend)

I had no sooner posted the list yesterday of how chaotic our year has been when I received a call that Shelley's dad passed away this morning. This is less than a month from when my mom passed away and simply adds to the difficult year we've had this year. Not all has been bad but certainly some parts have given us a sober reminder of how important some things are and how unimportant others are. In the terms of losing a parent, low water (or high water for that matter, we've experienced both this year) mean absolutely nothing.

While Don was not a "Resort Adventurer", I may share some humorous stories about that sometime, he was an avid fisherman. Shelley certainly was exposed to that lifestyle at an early age. Don was very content living his life close to home and any trip beyond the county line was an adventure for him. So, I suppose in that regard, he did experience quite the adventure when they would drive down to visit us. Shelley recounts the time they went to the Black Hills of South Dakota when she was a child and stayed in a cabin there. Between the cold weather, wet firewood and subsequent "smoky cabin" he had had about as much adventure as he wanted for a lifetime!. Shelley got her sense of adventurer, I'm sure, from her mom who has been gone for about 13 years now. Corrine would be ready to pack up and head out anywhere at the drop of a hat.

We will be travelling north next week to say our final farewell's to Don and to meet with other family from around the area there. The greatest gift that Don gave me was his daughter Shelley, who has been my Adventure Partner for forty years.

Your family loved you and you'll be missed until we are all reunited again.

Godspeed on your journey home!

Tell Corrine and Floyd hi and give them a hug from us.
